2023 motor grader - Copy (3)The Highway Department responsibilities include road and bridge maintenance which consists of signing, graveling, mowing, paving maintenance, drainage, snow removal, along with bridge inspections and culvert repair/ replacement.  The Highway Superintendent works with 3 foreman and 14 employees in 3 grading districts to maintain over 800 miles of roads in Keith County.  This consists of 70 miles of paved roads and 640 miles of gravel roads as well as over 90 miles of minimum maintenance roads.  It is also the responsibility of the Highway Superintendent to prepare the annual report, annual budget, one and six year road plan and report directly to the County Commissioners.  Keith County also promotes good partnership by Interlocal agreements with Lincoln, Arthur, Deuel, Garden and Perkins Counties as well as the City of Ogallala.
